Speaks for itself.

I can’t stand it when non-believers say things like “I’m not a Christian, but I think that Jesus was a really great guy”

atheistme:

Oh?

Was he a great guy when he told his followers to hate and  abandon their families? (Luke 14:26)

Or when he encouraged his followers to mutilate themselves? ( Matthew 18:8-9)

When he commanded that disobedient children be put to death?  (Matthew 15:4)

How about when he exclaimed he came to not to send peace, but a sword? ( Matthew 10:34)

Thats just a few things, guys.

Sure, the bible has lots of nice stories about Jesus healing the blind, and feeding lots of people. But you are fooling yourself if you think the new testament is full of love and happiness.

When Jesus’s personality was created by later members of his fan club, they put some decent words put in his mouth, but the character they created is still symptomatic of the barbarism of the day.

This actually exists. This is fucking scary.

Ummm…I guess this level of ignorance would be semi-excusable from a giraffe who’s never cracked a book, lab-coat or not.  But I would have to seriously question the intelligence of any human making statements like these.  O.o

While there is good reason to be skeptical, the Bible is not a good reason.  Isn’t the Bible the thing with the consistently 800 and 900 year old peoples?

Seriously, we aren’t all sticklers about people saying “god bless you”

I say thank you too. It’s just polite.

Atheism and suicide

prayerworkz:

“Religiously unaffiliated subjects had significantly more lifetime suicide attempts and more first-degree relatives who committed suicide than subjects who endorsed a religious affiliation. Unaffiliated subjects were younger, less often married, less often had children, and had less contact with family members.

“Furthermore, subjects with no religious affiliation perceived fewer reasons for living, particularly fewer moral objections to suicide. In terms of clinical characteristics, religiously unaffiliated subjects had more lifetime impulsivity, aggression, and past substance use disorder. No differences in the level of subjective and objective depression, hopelessness, or stressful life events were found.”
